JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Just days after Gov. Mike Parson signed legislation into law aimed at transgender athletes and minors, a Missouri family is invited to a Pride Month celebration at the White House. Later this summer, Missouri will officially join a handful of other states in banning gender-affirming care for minors and prohibiting transgender girl and women from playing on female sports teams. It's because of those two laws a central Missouri family is packing up their belongings, selling their home and moving out west."We picked Colorado because it's one of a few states that has enshrined protections for LGBTQ people and kids," Katherine Sasser said Wednesday. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has claimed responsibility for a busload of migrants that arrived at Union Station in Los Angeles on Wednesday. State officials were granted nearly $200 million dollars on Wednesday to move thousands of homeless Californians out of encampments and into housing.The money was allocated through the Encampment Resolution Fund which is administered by the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency and the California Interagency Council on Homelessness.The grants will be disbursed to 23 projects across 22 communities throughout the state.The ERF fund was “designed by Governor Gavin Newsom and the Legislature to provide communities of all sizes with the funding to move people living in encampments into housing,” according to state officials.Wednesday’s announcement of $199 million is the third and largest round of ERF grants to be distributed. ANTIOCH — In the latest scandal to engulf the city’s beleaguered police department, a former officer has been charged with assaulting a man during a July 2022 traffic stop, court records show.Matthew Nutt, who was fired from the Antioch police department over the same incident, was charged Tuesday with a single misdemeanor count of an officer unnecessarily assaulting a person. He has not yet entered a plea but is scheduled to do so on July 18.The charge stems from a July 1, 2022 traffic stop in which Nutt and a second officer knocked the man to the ground then pulled him into the car while attempting to arrest him on an outstanding warrant. (KRON) -- A fire that broke out at a commercial building in San Jose is at two alarms, the San Jose Fire Department confirmed. The commercial facility is located in the area of Blossom Hill Road and Cottle Road. Video of the fire shows a massive amount of smoke billowing from the structure. Tesla involved in ‘major injury’ vehicle collision in Santa Clara Roads in the area are closed and traffic is delayed. People are being advised not to drive over fire hoses and to obey all directions from fire crews and police officers. (KRON) -- The Nevada State Assembly approved a $380 million bill to help the Oakland Athletics build a new stadium in Las Vegas. The bill was then returned to the Nevada State Senate, which voted to concur. The bill passed Wednesday is slightly different than the bill passed on Tuesday in the senate. (KRON) -- An at-risk man was reported missing, the Alameda Police Department (APD) announced on Facebook Wednesday evening. McDaniel Smith, 89, was last seen Wednesday near the Burger King on 2200 Otis Drive around 4 p.m.Smith is between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-6 tall and walks with a bamboo cane. He was last seen wearing a burgundy t-shirt. He is known to visit the South Shore Center shopping complex at 523 S Shore Center, according to APD. (BCN) -- A Stockton man was found guilty of charges related to child molestation Wednesday in a San Joaquin County courtroom. Samuel "Sammy" Nunez, 48, was found guilty of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, according to court records. Tesla involved in ‘major injury’ vehicle collision in Santa Clara Nunez formerly ran a now-closed Stockton-based nonprofit organization called Fathers & Families of San Joaquin. In a statement, San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas thanked Theresa Stroud, a deputy district attorney who tried the case, for the verdict. "Make no mistake, no matter who you know, or what connections you may have, no one is above the law," Freitas said. Nunez is scheduled to return to court on July 28 for a sentencing hearing.
