Judge talks kidnapping, murder at History Happy Hour Judge talks kidnapping, murderSanta Clara County Superior Court Judge Paul Bernal will hold forth in Campbell on May 26 about the 1933 kidnapping and murder of Brooke Hart in San Jose and the subsequent lynching of suspects Thomas Harold Thurmond and John M. Holmes in St. James Park.Hart was the eldest son of Alexander Hart, owner of the L. Hart & Son department store in downtown San Jose. The Hart family was one of the most respected and wealthiest families in the city.
